This construction creates the essential 'spring platform' before any fill or cushioning is added. While this traditional method is sometimes substituted in modern upholstery with options like zig-zag springs or elastic webbing (which can be faster and more cost-effective to install), coil springs offer a distinct level of support and durability favored in quality craftsmanship.
