Dacron wrap is a soft fibre layer added around cushion foam to give it a smoother, rounder finish and make the insert easier to fit into the cover.
It changes the finish of the cushion rather than the support, so it does not replace choosing the right foam grade or correctly measuring the cover. If you are measuring a replacement cushion, start with our cushion cover measuring guide.
The Quick Answer
What Dacron does
Gives the cushion a smoother, rounder finish and softens the look of sharp foam edges.
What Dacron does not do
It does not add firmness or replace choosing the right foam grade for the job.
Does it change the foam size?
No. Keep the core foam measurements based on the cushion cover.
What Is Dacron Fibre Wrap?
Dacron, fibre wrap, bonded polyester fibre and wadding are names commonly used for the soft polyester layer wrapped around cushion foam.
Its main job is the finish. Dacron softens sharp foam edges, rounds the cushion slightly and helps reduce the square or blocky look of bare foam. Because the fibre slides against the cover more easily than bare foam, it can also make the insert easier to fit and remove.
Dacron Wrap Options Explained
Our foam cut to size calculator offers several wrap options depending on which surfaces you want covered.
| Wrap style | Where the Dacron goes | Common use | Image |
|---|---|---|---|
| Top only | Top face | Cushions where only the top surface needs a softer finish |
|
| Top and bottom | Both main faces | Reversible cushions and general seat cushions |
|
| L-wrap | Top and front edge | Cushions where the top and visible front need a softer finish |
|
| C-wrap | Top, front edge and bottom | Seat cushions where the visible front edge should look fuller and rounder |

Do I Reduce My Foam Size If I Add Dacron?
No. Measure the cushion cover and keep the core foam dimensions based on the cover. Dacron is thin and compressible, so you do not need to make the foam smaller to allow for it.
Reducing the foam size because you selected Dacron can leave the finished cushion too loose. Dacron improves the finish, but the foam core still needs to be correctly sized for the cover.
